WordPerfect Users Welcome Here

RETURN February 19, 1996

Now is a good time to consider why so many people have turned to Microsoft(r) Word for Windows(r) 95 and Microsoft(r) Office for Windows(r) 95 to meet their desktop computing needs. Consistently rated the top word processing software on the market, Microsoft Word is very easy to use.

Word Speaks Your Language

In fact, switching to Microsoft Word for Windows 95 is easier than ever before because many product features and services have been added to assist WordPerfect(r) users. Of course, when switching to Microsoft Word, it is important to be able to reach the same level of word processing mastery as before. Microsoft has tried to make the conversion to Word as painless as possible. Here are several ways in which to smooth the transition:

  • Help in Word for WordPerfect Users Word includes WordPerfect commands in its online Help so that WordPerfect users can instantly perform all the tasks they are used to. You can learn as you go along, but you won't be frustrated or delayed by finding WordPerfect equivalent commands in Word-they're already defined for you.
  • Built-in Reveal Formats and a Friendly View The Reveal Formats feature is a graphical way to troubleshoot document formatting, similar to using reveal codes in WordPerfect. WordPerfect users can also view their Word documents in a familiar blue background with white text.
  • Built-in File Conversion Convert a handful or a hard disk full of WordPerfect files with easy-to-use conversion utilities.
  • Free Supplemental Kits for WordPerfect 5.x and 6.x The kits include 5 TrueType® fonts to improve conversion from the WordPerfect character sets, and two WordPerfect templates with tools, macros, styles, and keyboard shortcuts to allow continued use of many WordPerfect conventions while you get comfortable. The Supplemental Kits are also available on the Microsoft Office web site.
  • No-Charge Support While You Switch from WordPerfect In the US, call Microsoft at (206) 462-9673 to receive help with your conversion from WordPerfect to Word, or visit the Microsoft Support Online web site.
  • Upgrade for Less The competitive upgrade price for user moving from WordPerfect (or other word processing software) to Microsoft Word for Windows 95 is approximately $129 (US), less than a third of the first-time purchase price of Microsoft Word.
  • Microsoft Word Switch Web Site This site features information on training, conversions, and support for users switching to Microsoft Word.

In addition, Microsoft Word's online Help facilities are comprehensive, and even include an Answer Wizard that allows you to ask questions in plain English. Ask it, "How do I indent a paragraph?" and you'll get a direct answer, a list of topics providing background information, and also any related topics.

The Smart Choice for the Future

A bonus of becoming a Word user is knowing that you can depend on Microsoft to keep you at the forefront of new technology. Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word is a fine example. Only Microsoft offers a free HTML authoring add-on for Word, and it is already recognized as one of the best authoring tools for HTML.

If web authoring capabilities don't lure you, the integrated strength of the Microsoft Office suite of applications will. With Office, you can place a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet into a Word document, develop an automated reporting system connected to a Microsoft Access database, and easily add graphics to Office documents from an Office-compatible application such as Visio® Express for Microsoft Office.

Turn On the Switch

As a WordPerfect user, we think you'll agree that many of the walls along the upgrade obstacle course are removed for you. We also hope this information makes your decision to switch much easier to make. Don't forget: the Microsoft Office web site is here to provide you with the latest Office add-ons and articles that highlight ways in which to get the most use and enjoyment from Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office.
